Luis Román, PhD

Senior Associate

Luis Román is a Financial Representative with Opus Private Client, LLC in the Boston office. Luis joined Opus after 15 years in asset management working in quantitative finance and investment risk management. He started his career in finance as a quantitative analyst building pricing, relative value, and risk models. He then transitioned to manage the investment risk in fixed income, equities, multi asset and alternatives portfolios for large institutions, corporations, and pension funds.

Prior to his career in investments, Luis held professorships positions at the University of California in Irvine, and Worcester Polytechnic Institute. He earned a master’s degree in applied mathematics from the University of Chicago and a doctorate degree in applied mathematics from the University of Minnesota.

In 2020, Luis had the opportunity to help dozens of small business owners with strategies to pivot, stabilize, or grow their businesses during the pandemic. During that experience he realized that helping small business owners was intrinsically connected to the owners personal and family financial goals. His holistic approach quickly earned him the trust and confidence of his clients resulting in strategies finely tuned with client’s objectives.

He soon realized his passion was helping people and making a positive impact on their lives using his personal background and experience - a unique blend of financial and analytical knowledge, and interpersonal skills - as a financial advisor.

Now, as a member of the Opus team, he will focus on asset protection, wealth accumulation, and wealth distributions strategies.

He lives in South Boston with his wife and two pets. In his spare time, Luis enjoys practicing meditation and mindfulness, running, and outdoor activities.
